Celebrate #NationalPeanutButterDay with this delicious Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Puff Pastry Braid! It comes together in a pinch thanks to store-bought puff pastry!
Hi buddies! It seems like there is always some sort of national food day, which means it's always a convenient day for us food bloggers to whip up something fun! Today is #NationalPeanutButterDay, and I am working with some blogger friends to share sweet and salty recipes using everyone's favorite spread. My creation is this Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Puff Pastry Braid, which almost takes longer to say than to make! It uses just a handful of ingredients, and as long as you have a roll of puff pastry in the freezer, I bet you could make this right now. I promise it would be a good decision. This little braid is SO good!
People always ask me, where does your recipe inspiration come from? Literally - EVERYWHERE. Food I eat out, things I see on social media posted by other people, tv shows, magazines, and sometimes... the frozen section at Trader Joe's. LOL. It's true! They sell something very similar to this braid which is filled with chocolate and topped with almond slivers. I decided to adapt it for National Peanut Butter Day by adding in a creamy peanut butter filling and skipping the almonds. And ta-da! A chocolate peanut butter puff pastry braid was born!
And now for the real question... how does one MAKE a chocolate peanut butter puff pastry braid? It's actually WAY easier than it looks! So you start with a thawed out sheet of puff pastry from the store. Go ahead and already lay it on your baking sheet lined with parchment or silicone, and cut it just like THIS. You whip up a super quick cream made of peanut butter, vegan butter, and brown sugar, and spread it in the middle. Top with several bars of chocolate, then fold up the braid, brush with coconut milk and sprinkle on raw sugar. All you have to do now is wait for it to bake and devour!

Make it vegetarian!
- Sub the vegan butter for unsalted dairy butter
- Instead of brushing the braid with coconut milk, use heavy cream or a beaten egg white!
vegan chocolate peanut butter puff pastry braid
Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed {check the ingredients to make sure it's vegan}
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon melted vegan butter
- 2 dark chocolate bars
- *for topping*
- coconut milk
- raw sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F.
- Line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment or silicone, and place the thawed sheet of puff pastry on top.
- Cut 1-inch strips from the center out along each side. If you want to create a folding notch, trim off the top and bottom strips.
- In a medium bowl, beat together the peanut butter, melted vegan butter, and brown sugar until smooth and creamy. Spread it in the center part of your prepared puff pastry.
- Place the two bars of chocolate on top of the peanut butter cream.
- Fold the top and bottom flaps of puff pastry into the middle, then fold each strip towards the center, overlapping and creating a braid.
- Brush the braid with the coconut milk, and sprinkle on the raw sugar. Place braid in fridge for about 10 minutes to chill it, then transfer immediately to the oven.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffy. Let cool slightly and enjoy!
