This Earl Grey Hot Cocoa is the perfect cozy drink for a cold night! Milk is infused with the warm flavors of earl grey for a sophisticated twist on the classic hot chocolate.
Hello, my dearest readers! Today, I am sharing probably one of the easiest recipes to date... but worry not, that doesn't mean it's any less delicious 😉 This Earl Grey Hot Cocoa infuses hot chocolate with tea for an amazing, unexpected combination! If you were looking for a sophisticated hot cocoa well, I've got you covered. It's perfect for chilly nights!
So school is back in full swing, and we are currently talking about the GI system, which means every time I make food now I'm thinking about how it gets digested. And what enzymes are needed. And what kind of path it travels in the digestive system. VERY fun stuff, as you can imagine! Luckily since this hot cocoa is liquid, it means it's path is definitely one of least resistance since there's no breakdown involved! But your body still has to take apart the milk and sugars. But you know, whatever. I talk about this stuff all day so I should probably discuss something more exciting with y'all 😉
This hot cocoa is super simple to make, and it's actually kind of a cross between my favorite chai latte and my super-rich Italian-style hot chocolate. I started by infusing the milk with Earl Grey tea, but you could definitely change it up and use any tea you want! Chai tea, once again, would be totally delicious for a more spiced take. After the tea was thoroughly steeped, I removed the tea bags and I just added a handful of chocolate chips, cocoa, and sugar into the mixture and whisked it up. And that's it! It's not as watery as straight-up cocoa, but it's also not as rich as sipping chocolate, which basically solidifies into pudding when cold. It's a perfect in-between for when you need a thick, rich warm drink that won't break the calorie bank!

I love both Earl Grey and Chocolate, but haven't thought to combine them - sounds like a delicious match. Can't wait to try this soon! I've never used cashew milk before, do you find the consistency is more similar to soy milk or coconut milk?

Hi Sarah! I love both tea and chocolate and I have to say the combination is pretty fantastic! Cashew milk is pretty cream so I would say it's closer to soy milk or a little thicker than almond milk. I find (refrigerated) coconut milk to be very watery!
