The weather has finally, finally turned cold in Texas {at least for the current hour} and I thought the only way to celebrate was to make some hot chocolate! But not just any hot chocolate, nope. Thick, rich, creamy Italian style hot chocolate. And I may or may not have added like a shot of bourbon to this. Ooops. Sorry not sorry, y'all. Tis the season after all!
Would you believe me if I said this hot chocolate only requires 3 ingredients? 4 if you decide to spike it. It's so simple and it's without a doubt the best hot chocolate you'll ever have! I have often pondered the mystery of thick American chocolate milk and runny American hot cocoa, and honestly I still haven't figured out why that is. This homemade, stove-top hot chocolate is better than anything you can make from mixing a packet with hot water, and it's sinfully thick and chocolatey. Seriously, think stove-top pudding before it thickens. And, to be completely honest, if you refrigerate this it pretty much turns into pudding, so. Point proven. 😉
I chose to spike my hot chocolate with bourbon, because I already had it in my house and I'm a firm believer in shopping your own pantry {or liquor cabinet, in this case}, but of course you can spike this with whatever you'd like! And in case you're wondering if this is the same bottle I used to make these Chocolate Bourbon Cake Shots like 2 years ago, yeaaaaah it is. Takes me awhile to go through these things, in case you haven't noticed. 😉 If you wanna be really Italian, you can add in some amaretto or Marsala and I'm sure it would be delicious. But anything you add will be tasty! I mean, can you really go wrong with chocolate and alcohol? I don't think so.
