Hello, friends! Today we are discussing two of my favorite snack foods... in one! It's no secret that I have an avocado obsession, and I could seriously eat guacamole all day, every day. Hummus is another one of my favorite treats, but I usually stick with the storebought stuff, so I actually had never made it from scratch before. Though I am a food blogger, you'd be surprised to know how lazy I am in the kitchen. Oops! When Sesame King Tahini asked me to review their products and make a few recipes, all I could think of was, "This is the perfect chance to make hummus at home!" And y'all, it did not disappoint. I present to you... Guacamole Hummus. Your two favorite dips, combined!
This delicious dip combines elements of guacamole, like avocado {of course}, fresh lime juice, jalapenos, and cilantro, with chickpeas, garlic, and Sesame King Tahini. Everything is pulverized in the blender with a bit of olive oil until smooth and silky, and you're all done! Serve with pita chips and fresh veggies for a perfectly delicious, healthy, protein-packed snack. This tastes like ultra-creamy guacamole, with a hint of richness from the sesame seed paste and a fresh, spicy kick from the fresh jalapenos.
Sesame King Tahini is 100% pure ground sesame paste, and it comes in a variety of delicious flavors, perfect for any and all recipes! For this hummus, I used the garlic variety, but Sesame King is also available in Roasted, Light Roast, Honey, Cajun, Chocolate, and Olive Oil as well. The next recipe I make with these products will be sweet, so that you can see how versatile of a product tahini really is! It's not used very often, but it's actually very similar to peanut butter, so it can used in it's place in many recipes. If you're looking for more tahini deliciousness, you can check out my Baba Ganoush dip, and my Tahini Dark Chocolate Granola! In the meanwhile, happy cooking! Or I guess I should say, happy blending and snacking! 🙂
guacamole hummus
Ingredients
- 1 can chickpeas
- ¼ cup Sesame King garlic tahini
- 2 avocados
- ¼ white onion roughly chopped
- 2 garlic cloves
- juice of ½ lime
- 1 jalapeno seeded and ribbed
- handful of fresh cilantro
- 2-3 tablespoon olive oil
- salt and red pepper flakes to taste
Instructions
- First, drain the can of chickpeas, but reserve the liquid for later. If you want a smoother hummus, you can remove the skins from the beans. Definitely optional, but I think it improves the texture of the dip!
- Place the chickpeas in a blender or food processor, and add in the avocados, onion, jalapeno, lime juice, cilantro, and garlic. Pulse on high until everything is blended and resembles a rough paste.
- Add in the tahini and olive oil, and blend until smooth. If the hummus is still a little grainy, add in the reserved chickpea brine, a little at a time, until the mixture becomes more smooth.
- Add in salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
- Serve immediately with chips and veggies, or store in the fridge in an airtight container. Enjoy!
