Say hello to these incredibly easy Vegan Pretzel Dogs! They're super simple to make, come together quickly, and taste even better than your favorite mall indulgence.
Ohhh y'all, I did a thing. A very delicious thing. A vegan friendly, meat-free, dairy-free, BEST EVER thing. I made you Vegan Pretzel Dogs! These are embarrassingly easy to make and they taste amazing. I know it sounds crazy, but you really don't need any meat or butter to have mall-worthy pretzel-wrapped hot dogs. Let's go make some!
This all started as it often does. You know by know I am an impulse clearance shopper. I saw some fancy-shmancy Field Roast vegan hot dogs on sale for $1.50 and I just couldn't help myself! They jumped in the shopping cart by themselves, I swear. These frankfurters have an incredibly similar flavor and texture to "real" hot dogs, and they worked perfectly in these vegan pretzel dogs! I'm sure there are other good brands out there too, but this is the one that I've personally tried and tested and it's Baking Fairy approved!
The secret behind these vegan pretzel dogs is of course the pretzel... which is actually made from store-bought pizza dough! That makes the entire process ridiculously easy. I find my pizza dough at Tom Thumb {it's the same as Randall's, but name varies by region}, but you can also get it at Trader Joe's! My trusty vegan best friend tells me she usually buys the canned Pillsbury pizza dough as that is vegan as well. And if all else fails, you can find my homemade pizza dough recipe HERE!
I hope you try these delicious vegan pretzel dogs soon! Honestly, they were so good that my brothers didn't even know they were vegan until they licked their plates clean and I revealed the secret 😉 These are perfect for a fun and easy lunch, or make them bite sized for a party-perfect appetizer! Happy baking!
vegan pretzel dogs
Ingredients
- 6 vegan hot dogs {I like Field Roast}
- 1 lb store-bought pizza dough
- 2-3 tablespoon refined coconut oil melted
- 1-2 tablespoon coarse or pretzel salt
- 2 tablespoon baking soda
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450F.
- Divide your pizza dough into 6 even pieces, and roll each into a long skinny snake (about 14-16").
- Wrap each hotdog with a piece of the dough, making sure to pinch the ends so that the dough does not unravel. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil, and add in the baking soda.
- Boil each pretzel dog for about 30 seconds, until it floats and the dough appears firm. Repeat with all.
- Brush each pretzel dog with some of the melted coconut oil, and sprinkle on the salt.
- Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Enjoy!
