Hello, friends! Today, I am sharing one of my favorite non-food recipes... a body scrub! In typical college girl fashion, my favorite things include drinking coffee, beauty treatments, and things that are cheap, or better yet FREE! This little product right here fits in with all of those categories. I'm a regular coffee drinker, just a cup a day, but every day when I got rid of my used Keurig pods, I found myself thinking, "I know I can't make anything edible with these, but I wish I could do something better than just throwing them away!" You know? I hate wasting stuff, and I knew there had to be some use for brewed coffee grounds. This "recipe" is the perfect solution. Now you can drink your coffee, and scrub with it too! Sorry. That was weird.
This is seriously so fast and easy to make, just uses two ingredients, and it works amazingly! I stumbled upon this very fancy, totally overpriced coconut oil and coffee scrub on Instagram {one of the people I follow had just posted excitedly about how they just got theirs in the mail}, and I decided that rather than pay $15 plus shipping for a little baggie, I could make a ton at home for practically nothing. And guess what? I was right! The best part is that, since you're not eating this, it's totally fine to use cheaper coconut oil. It doesn't matter if it's extra virgin or refined because well, like I said, you're not eating it and your skin won't really care! So between the cheap oil and the brewed, practically free, coffee, this little beauty secret is a total money-saver. It makes you skin super soft and hydrated, and honestly you could just use this as your body wash if you wanted. HOWEVER, two little pieces of advice. One, don't use this on your face if you have acne-prone skin. Trust me on this one. Yikes. And two, be prepared for your shower to be a total, complete, utter mess. Ha! You have been warned...
So finally, here is how you make it!
- Coconut oil, melted
- Brewed coffee grounds
Place the coffee grounds in a lidded container.
Add coconut oil {I have found that about 1 tablespoon oil per Keurig pod is a good amount!}.
Mix or shake everything together until it resembles thick mud. Gross, I know!
Use in the shower as a body scrub! Using as a face scrub is not recommended. Don't be afraid of a little mess and have fun!
