I am finally revealing my big project I had been working on! Well, when I say "big," I just mean big for me. My first paid order and my first birthday party cake and my first time making/working with fondant and my first time sticking a barbie into a cake. Also my first time baking a cake in a giant measuring cup. Anyway, this cake was a lot of hard work... but I was seriously so pleased with how it came out! It wasn't like the picture I got my inspiration from, but I still think it was so awesome in it's own way. Wanna see? 🙂

I made a Beauty and the Beast Barbie cake! Ta-daaa! Please excuse those lovely candle holes on her dress... This was a big, big project for me, and I couldn't have done it without help from my mom 🙂 She is my one and only baking helper if I ever need one! And she is great. She helps me so much because she knows I'm so stubborn and I'm a perfectionist, so I get discouraged really easily if things don't work out right away. So, yep, she is the best and I love her. 🙂
These are just my side-back-side pictures to show what I did for the back 🙂 Please excuse all the lovely stuff behind her like my phone and water cup and plate of starburst... it was late and I was tired and I wanted to take pictures of my pretty cake! I'm not going to post the recipe for what I made unless someone asks. I made the fondant from scratch, the Swiss meringue frosting from scratch, but I bought strawberry cake mix for the cake so I wouldn't be totally overwhelmed. Oh, and now my favorite picture.. the inside!
I thought the layers came out so well, and I am so glad I decided to layer the whole thing instead of doing one cake plus an extra bottom like the original recipe suggested. It made the cake look much prettier and kept it moist with the frosting in between. Overall, I couldn't have been more pleased with what came out. None of the moms at the party believed I really made it myself! And then everyone kept saying it was really delicious and they couldn't believe I made the fondant from scratch (well, the bake-savvy moms couldn't). I would say that's the best compliment I could've gotten. 🙂 If you're interested in knowing what I did and how, ask and I will gladly post about it! Because, well, it's alot harder than you would think. You know when you see a picture on the internet or Pinterest or wherever and you're like "Oh, psh. I could so easily make that and make it better!" Well, that's me. ALL the time. This was much tougher than I anticipated! So if you want to make this cake or something like it, do not hesitate to ask for help. It was totally tricky but I'm glad I managed to figure it out. 🙂

Great job! My mom made one of these years ago when I was little...4 or 5 maybe. I'm obsessed with your blog. Just found it. Can we please open a store together?
